Parry Sound Initiates "Top Shelf for Mental Health"
“Top Shelf for Mental Health” promotes mental health awareness this January. The Parry Sound Shamrocks Hockey Club and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Muskoka-Parry Sound are devoting the month of January to raising awareness about mental health and reducing stigma surrounding mental illness.
Throughout January, teams from all levels in the Shamrocks Minor Hockey program will be using green skate laces and green stick tape as a visual reminder to support mental health resilience.
CMHA Muskoka-Parry Sound encourages team members to learn about mental health by starting the conversation: if you, or someone you know, is struggling and having trouble coping with difficulties and challenges, talk about it with coaches, teammates, friends or loved ones. Conversations on mental health help to build healthy and strong communities. The Top Shelf for Mental Health ceremonial puck drop will be launching on January 3rd at 7p.m. before the Shamrock Midget game. Please also join CMHA Muskoka-Parry Sound and Hands the Family Health Network at the Bobby Orr Community Centre in Parry Sound January 11th for a full day of hockey with information on ways you can keep mentally healthy. Top Shelf for Mental Health was created by the Stevens family in memory of Dr. Rob Stevens.
